Benji Gosnell - Four targets in opener Gosnell posted one reception (on four targets) for zero yards during Sunday's 24-11 loss against South Carolina.

Impact Gosnell was the only Virginia Tech tight end to be targeted in the loss, but he caught just one of those targets for no gain. Gosnell logged 32 catches for 341 yards and two scores last season with the Hokies, and he caught multiple passes in nine of 13 appearances.

Ayden Greene - Massive target share in Week 1 Greene notched five receptions (on 10 targets) for 71 yards during Sunday's 24-11 loss versus South Carolina.

Impact Greene was targeted on 11 of Kyron Drones' 35 pass attempts in Virginia Tech's season opener. While he caught fewer than 50 percent of the passes that came his way, Greene led the team in receptions and ranked second in receiving yards against a stout South Carolina defense. He looks to be the clear top option for the Hokies, and managed to put together a strong stat line despite an overall rough offensive game.

Donavon Greene - Makes splash plays Greene notched three receptions (on five targets) for 94 yards during Sunday's 24-11 defeat against South Carolina.

Impact Greene caught passes of 32, 37 and 25 yards during Sunday's season-opening loss, pacing Virginia Tech in receiving yards while finishing second in targets and receptions. The Wake Forest transfer looks to be locked in to a key role in the Hokies' offense and has established enough trust with Kyron Drones to be on the receiving end of deep passes. Greene caught 23 passes for 380 yards and three touchdowns last season with the Demon Deacons.

Marcellous Hawkins - Leading rusher in opener Hawkins recorded 15 carries for 58 yards and hauled in 0 of 1 targets for zero yards during Sunday's 24-11 loss versus South Carolina.

Impact Hawkins benefited from the absences of Terion Stewart (foot) and Braydon Bennett (knee), logging 10 more carries than any other Hokie running back. Hawkins looks to be headed toward a committee once Stewart and Bennett are available, but for now, he's got a firm hold on the No. 1 role. Hawkins transferred to Virginia Tech from Central Missouri.

Kyron Drones - Struggles in 2025 debut Drones was 15-for-35 passing for 221 yards and two interceptions during Sunday's 24-11 loss against South Carolina. He also had 12 rushes for 26 yards.

Impact Drones threw multiple interceptions for the first time in his college career, and he never really found a rhythm during VT's Week 1 loss. He completed just 42.9 percent of his pass attempts. In nine games last season, Drones logged 1,562 passing yards, a 10:6 TD:INT, 336 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns. He'll look to bounce back in Week 2 against Vanderbilt.
