Chiefs first-round pick Mansoor Delane hurts shoulder after interception in debut against Broncos

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Chiefs cornerback Mansoor Delane hurt his shoulder after intercepting his first career pass in Kansas City's season opener against the Denver Broncos on Monday night, making it a short night for the sixth overall pick in the NFL draft.

Delane intercepted Broncos quarterback Bo Nix the first time he was thrown at on the opening series of the game. He stumbled after making the catch and went to the ground untouched, then was tackled on his right shoulder, though he seemed well enough to sprint to the end zone and celebrate. But Delane was not on the field for the Broncos' ensuing series, and he did not return.

Delane missed the majority of the offseason and the first preseason game because of an injured shoulder.

Chiefs linebacker Cooper McDonald also left in the first quarter with a knee injury and did not return.
