Tidal wave of support lifts #Tsunami to All-Star Game
The #VoteMo mojo must have been working because both candidates from the Show-Me State are first-time All-Stars.
Cardinals pitcher Carlos Martinez won the Final Vote spot on the National League roster, and Kansas City third baseman Mike Moustakas got the nod for the final spot on the American League roster.
A coordinated effort among the St. Louis Cardinals, the Kansas City Royals and organizations such as FOX Sports Midwest and FOX Sports Kansas City apparently did the trick. Martinez beat out Cincinnati's Johnny Cueto, the Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw, Colorado's Troy Tulowitzki and the Mets' Jeurys Familia. Moustakas beat Minnesota's Brian Dozier, Detroit's Yoenis Cespedes and Boston's Xander Bogaerts.
Martinez joins five other Cardinals selected for the NL All-Star team: shortstop Jhonny Peralta, left fielder Matt Holliday (who is injured and will not play), catcher Yadier Molina and pitchers Trevor Rosenthal and Michael Wacha.
Moustakas will also be in good company in Cincinnati. Shortstop Alcides Escobar, catcher Salvador Perez, outfielders Alex Gordon (on the disabled list) and Lorenzo Cain and pitchers Wade Davis and Kelvin Herrera are AL All-Stars.
