CD Leganes reveal world's first jersey with scratch-n-sniff badge
CD Leganes are making their debut season in La Liga this year, and the little-known club from the outskirts of Madrid have come up with an interesting way to introduce themselves to the big stage.
"Los Peperioneros," or "little cucumbers" as they are known (they might be my new favorite club already), have unveiled the first ever soccer jersey with a scratch-n-sniff badge. The scent? Freshly-cut grass.
Kit maker Joma produced a seductive video introducing the kit, featuring a Leganes player who looks like he's about to make out with said badge:
The club's marketing director, Daniel Abanda, told the official La Liga website that Joma approached the club with the concept.
"The idea fitted really well with how we see ourselves," Abanda said. "A close-knit club, with a sense of fun, and with a desire to do things differently as we have been doing since we were in the Segunda Division B."
"The response from the fans on the first day was spectacular with enormous queues at the stadium shop. We are where we want to be, we want to stay close to our fans and help make them smile."
Okay, so that's actually a pretty cool idea and all, but couldn't you come up with a better scent than... grass? Booooring.
The answer is yes, of course you can, so here are some of alternative ideas for next year's kit:
Cucumbers
This is so obvious it's infuriating. Your nickname is the "cucumber growers." Cucumbers smell nice, yet not overpowering. C'mon, man.
Pizza
Everyone loves pizza.
"Legacy" by Cristiano Ronaldo
Maybe CR7 will take it easy on the La Liga newbies if they smell like him.
Fresh coffee
Another obvious one. Coffee is one of the best scents out there and just smelling it boosts your alertness. That's just science.
Farts
Nothing distracts defenders like a classic "who dunnit" fart. Also, farts are funny. Just don't do it around referees.
