Published Dec. 6, 2017 12:44 p.m. ET

Charlotte Hornets head coach Steve Clifford will not be with his team for the immediate future.

The organization announced that Clifford, 56, is stepping away from the team due to health reasons. There is no timetable set for his return.

Clifford, who was hired in May 2013 and owns a 160-168 career record after leading the organization to the playoffs in 2014 and 2016, missed Monday night's win over the Magic. Charlotte currently sits in the 11th seed in the Eastern Conference with a 9-13 overall record.

Associate head coach Stephen Silas will serve as the franchise's acting head coach.
