Before making his first career NFL start, Detroit Lions first-round draft pick Eric Ebron will kick off Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race by giving the command to start engines.

A native of Greensboro, N.C., Ebron attended the University of North Carolina, but has never been to a NASCAR race before, but will serve as the grand marshal for the Quicken Loans 400.

"I am excited," Ebron said. "I've never been to a race before, and being new to the city of Detroit and the state of Michigan, it's an honor. I know NASCAR has a lot of ties to North Carolina, so I'm proud to represent my hometown of Greensboro, my university and the Detroit Lions."

During his college career, Ebron set UNC records for single-season receptions, single-season receiving yards, career receptions and career receiving yards. He also holds the ACC record for his 895 receiving yards in 2013.
