Vikings' Cook still jailed in Minnesota

Published Oct. 24, 2011 1:00 a.m. ET

Vikings cornerback Chris Cook will remain behind bars for at least one more night after authorities in Minnesota failed to forward his pending assault case to the attorney's office, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported.

Cook could be released Tuesday if police fail to file formal charges against the Vikings defensive back, who was booked Saturday on probable cause for felony domestic assault/strangulation and misdemeanor domestic assault.

Cook, 24, was arrested around 2:10am local time Saturday after a neighbor called 911 to report screaming coming from Cook's home in Eden Prairie, Minn., about 18 miles (29km) southwest of Minneapolis.

The identity and condition of the victim were yet to be released.

A spokeswoman for the city of Eden Prairie told the Star Tribune Cook's arraignment, initially scheduled for Monday, was canceled while police continued to investigate the incident.

The Vikings issued a statement following the arrest, saying the team took the matter "very seriously," but declined to comment further until additional details emerged.

Saturday's arrest was Cook's second brush with the law in recent months. He was cleared by a judge in May of pulling a gun on a neighbor during a verbal altercation near his mother's home in Lynchburg, Va., in March.

The latest incident forced the second-year player out of the University of Virginia to miss Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers.
