It may be a few weeks out yet, but Victor Cruz has set a target date for his long-awaited return to the field for the New York Giants.

The wide receiver on Thursday stated he believes he’ll be good to go for the Giants’ Nov. 29 game against the Washington Redskins, saying “after the bye looks like a promising date” for his return, per a tweet from the New York Daily News’ Ralph Vacchiano, via Pro Football Talk.

The Giants, 4-4 and in sole position of first place in the weak NFC East, have games against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New England Patriots before its bye the weekend of Nov. 22, meaning it’s entirely possible the team will still be at .500 upon Cruz’s return.

Cruz has been out since last October when he tore his right patellar tendon in a game against the Philadelphia Eagles, limiting the dynamic wideout to only six games. Since then he has only participated in one practice and has essentially been shut down since mid-August due to a calf strain.

It was as recent as Wednesday that the Giants indicated the team had no idea nor timetable when Cruz would finally make his return. The news that Cruz is at least setting a target return date arguably is encouraging.

Vacchiano also reported via Twitter that Cruz indicated his calf is fully healed and all his MRIs have checked out.

“It’s all about how I feel,” he said.

Should Cruz be able to return against the Redskins, it would mean the Giants offense could be even more potent than a squad that put up a 49-spot in a loss to the New Orleans Saints last Sunday for the final six-game stretch. An encouraging sign, indeed, especially for a team graced by the fact it is seeking to win a division title in the woeful NFC East.
