Vegas Oddsmakers Starting To Believe In New York Giants
The New York Football Giants (9-4) have not exactly been an oddsmakers dream client. This week, the team has another import NFC clash, as they take on the Detroit Lions (9-4) at MetLife Stadium. Both squads are coming off close wins. The G-Men took down the Dallas Cowboys 10-7 on Sunday Night Football. Meanwhile, the Lions slipped past the Chicago Bears 20-17 at Ford Field.
Oddsmakers This Week
According to the website, VegasInsider.com, the Giants opened up as 5.5 point favorite over the Lions this week. It seems that the oddsmakers have officially jumped on the Big Blue bandwagon. While the Vegas insiders have gotten on board, the betting public has not. The consensus spread has dropped to the Giants -4.5 points on Sunday, a pretty steep decline.
The under/over spread has seen a more precipitous flop. It opened at 44, and now is down to 41.5 points. Some of that activity may be due to the hand injury to Matthews Stafford, however.

Giants Against The Oddmakers
This season, the Giants are a very ordinary 6-5-2 against the spread, so the oddmakers obviously have gotten as many games wrong as they have right with Big Blue. The two ties do represent point spreads that were spot-on, however. Pushes don’t help the house, so that’s the importance of the use of the 1/2 point in the spread.
If you’re looking for more of a sure-thing, try betting the under when the G-Men are playing. New York owns a lousy 3-10 record this season in the under/over bet. That revelation should be no surprise to anyone following the team. The Giants offense has largely been stuck in mud for most of the year.
According to the website, OddsShark, “the total has gone UNDER in 5 of NY Giants’s last 5 games.”
With the Giants offense in neutral, and a right hand injury to Matthew Stafford, expect a low scoring game.
