Urlacher back with Bears after mom dies

Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher returned to the team's practice facility Thursday, three days after the sudden death of his mother.

The seven-time Pro Bowler arrived at Halas Hall in Chicago, two sources confirmed to the Chicago Tribune.

Urlacher had left Chicago Tuesday to be with his family after his mother, Lavoyda Lenard, 51, died unexpectedly Monday at her home in Texas.

"I can't tell you what Brian is going through right now," Bears coach Lovie Smith said Wednesday. "I know sometimes when you're going through tough times, the best thing for you to do is to get back to something that you like doing, and football is very important to Brian.

"He has a big support group here, so I know he's anxious to get back with his teammates. Again, I don't think there's a book on how you go through it. You just kind of take it one day at a time, which we'll do."

The Bears linebacker issued a statement Wednesday confirming this mother's passing and asking for privacy during this "very difficult and emotional time."

Urlacher's status for Chicago's game against New Orleans Sunday is not certain, but his return Thursday likely indicates his intention to play.
