Twitter and NFL drop emojis for all 32 teams

Need a new way to support an NFL team? The internet has got you covered.

In an effort to appeal to millennials, the NFL has teamed with Twitter to release emojis (and matching hashtags) for all 32 teams, as Week 1 of the season rapidly approaches.

The emojis are all NFL team logos, with the exception of the Seahawks number 12 for the “12th man,” with a matching #WeAere12 hashtag. The Rams and Vikings are sporting new logos to promote their respective relocation and new stadium.

The rest of the hashtags range from classic team battle cries (#GoPackGo, #HTTR, #KeepPounding) to the painfully literal (#Chiefs, #Chargers, #Jaguars).

Some other interesting hashtags include the Colt’s #FortheShoe (feels like Jim Irsay had a hand in this one), the Vikings #Skol (which is apparently what Vikings yell), and the Steelers’ very effortless effort, #HereWeGo.

Some NFL teams (like the Cowboys and Chargers) have started using the emojis on Twitter, urging fans to spread the love all season long. Also, Fox’s Katie Nolan (jokingly) tweeted that her Patriots got not just one, but two emojis.

The emojis seem fun and all, but it would have been nice to see NFL teams put a little more creative effort into the process. (Kudos to the Seahawks for trying, at least.)

Examples: For the Packers, perhaps a cheese head emoji? Maybe a Darth Vader helmet for the Raiders? A terrible towel for the Steelers? The possibilities are endless.

Expect to see a flurry of NFL emojis and hashtags on social media as the NFL gears up for Week 1, kicking things off with a Super Bowl rematch between the Broncos and Panthers Thursday night (Sept. 8).
