Trent Murphy: Redskins will 'bully some people'

Trent Murphy is making the media rounds this offseason, just a few weeks after Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden named him a player he most expects to take a leap forward in 2015. Gruden isn't the only one excited about what Murphy can bring to the table. Although he has only been around for a few months now, defensive tackle Terrance Knighton believes that Murphy might be the best defender on the field right now.

“Trent Murphy, he’s going to come into his own,” Knighton said, per the Washington Post. “He’s probably playing the best right now on defense.”

That is some high praise from Knighton when you consider all of the talent that first year general manager Scot McCloughan added to the front seven this offseason.

Murphy sees a difference, and feels the difference when he works with the newly assembled Redskins roster. McCloughan and Gruden made it their goal to bulk up the trenches on both sides of the ball this offseason. The Redskins added several premium draft picks and free agents along the offensive and defensive lines.

"I’ve kind of got that feeling a little bit with our offensive line," Murphy said. "Those guys, they’ve been grinding, they’ve been doing duck walks every day, they’re gonna be able to move people. So it’s been fun to see them kind of have that development on that side.

“Just kind of as a [team] walking together, you feel that size and that body mass on some guys,” Murphy said. “We’re definitely gonna be able to bully some people.”

Building through the lines is often the correct first step for rebuilding an NFL franchise, and the Redskins certainly needed the reboot. At the very least, the Redskins should be a more physical team in 2015, after getting beaten off the ball too often in 2014.
