Tony Romo to Cliff Avril: 'See you in the playoffs'

After Cliff Avril injured Tony Romo in the preseason, the Dallas Cowboys quarterback told him ‘we will see you in the playoffs.’
Seeing Tony Romo go down again in preseason was a tough pill to swallow for Dallas Cowboys fans. They immediately took to blaming Cliff Avril, the Seattle Seahawks defensive end who injured him, but there’s nobody who feels worse about it than Avril.
Shortly after the fallout of that game, Avril took to Twitter to post this:
Look I’m not in the business of hurting anybody… Definitely didn’t know @TonyRomo was hurt… So all u guys on my timeline can fall back!!
— Cliff Avril (@cliffavril) August 26, 2016
But since he knew that wasn’t enough, he personally reached out to Romo. Speaking to the Star-Telegram, Avril said “I hit him up to see how he was doing and to let him know it wasn’t intentional. He hit me back saying it was football and it was a freak accident. He started joking and saying, ‘You take care of the NFC West, and we will see you in the playoffs.'”
That’s pretty big talk for someone who will be out for 6-10 weeks. However, the exceptional play of Dak Prescott during the preseason has ensured that the Cowboys won’t have to scramble for a quarterback. Even though Prescott has never played a down of regular season football yet, there’s optimism among Cowboys nation.
And considering the opponents they’ll be facing, going .500 during the first half of the season is manageable. If Romo is able to successfully navigate the Cowboys back to the playoffs, it would be a tremendous story. However, they were in that unenviable position last year, and all that happened was Romo re-injured himself in his second game back.
Unfortunately, Romo is on the bad end of 36 and is way past his prime in the NFL. Even if the Cowboys do make it to the playoffs, like Romo predicts, there’s a good chance that he won’t be playing under center by then.
