Tom Coughlin: Wes Welker 'very quick' in workout for us
The Giants worked out free-agent Wes Welker on Tuesday and head coach Tom Coughlin came away impressed with what he saw from the veteran wide receiver.
With Victor Cruz out indefinitely due to a calf injury, Big Blue is going back to the drawing board in their search for a reliable and active slot receiver.
"We brought him in, worked him out, he was healthy and he worked out well for us," Giants coach Tom Coughlin said to reporters, per Jordan Raanan of True Jersey.
Coughlin also added that Welker looked "very quick, very active."
The Giants have struggled to find an answer in the slot in 2015. Preston Parker opened the year as the starting slot man, but after five drops in two games, he was released. Dwayne Harris has taken over as the No. 3, but in his first start, he had minimal involvement in passing game.
Welker battled through concussions in 2014 and finished with just 464 yards receiving and two touchdowns on 46 receptions. In 2013, however, Welker was an excellent option in the slot, racking up 778 yards and 10 touchdowns on 73 receptions.
The 34-year-old fomer undrafted free agent has not received much interest elsewhere around the league and there have been no reports that a contract with the Giants is imminent.
