Terrell Owens announces that he has failed to make the HOF

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 6:45 p.m. ET

Terrell Owens announced that he has not made the cut for this year’s HOF class via his Twitter account. This is his second year of eligibility.

Terrell Owens has failed to make the Pro Football Hall of Fame cut for the second straight year, despite ranking among the top 10 wide receivers in receptions and receiving yards. The perceived reason Owens has been held back is due to his off-field (and sometimes on-field) antics. Many people have claimed that he was a ” bad teammate” and “didn’t make his team better” despite being one of the best receivers of all time.

People even claimed he was a “distraction” to his team. He never won a Super Bowl, despite being on some great teams, and even making it to the Super Bowl with the Eagles in 2004.

The fact is that despite Owens’ antics throughout his career, he ranks second all time in receiving yards and eighth all-time in catches, which should be more than enough. The wide receiver’s play on the field should far outweigh his antics, and he often played well enough to offset them by far. This shouldn’t be a question that’s up for debate. But Terrell Owens will have to wait one more year to see if he can cap off his illustrious NFL career in Canton.
