Teddy Bridgewater Season Over After a Torn ACL, Dislocated Knee

As the ambulance sped out of the Minnesota Vikings training facility, both players and fans knew it was bad. How bad, they did not know.

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater is officially out for the entire 2016 NFL season after suffering a non-contact left knee injury in Tuesdays practice.

Vikings team doctors confirmed that Bridgewater suffered a complete tear to his ACL, dislocation of his knee, and other related structural damage. He thankfully did not injure any nerves or arteries in his left knee.

Vikings Director of Sports Medicine and Head Athletic Trainer Eric Sugarman laid out the situation in a statement Tuesday evening.

Shaun Hill is the back-up quarterback for the Vikings, but the team will need to find another suitable option heading into the season. Hill is 36-years-old, and has not started a game since 2014.

Rookie undrafted free agent Joel Stave is also listed on the depth chart, but he is not expected to see the field this season.

Free agent quarterbacks available include Michael Vick, TJ Yates, Josh Freeman, Zach Mettenberger, Matt Flynn, and Ryan Lindley.

Austin Davis is also available, however the Dallas Cowboys will reportedly have him in town Wednesday for a workout. Their starter, Tony Romo, is out with a broken bone in his back.

On the trade block sits veterans Mark Sanchez and Geno Smith. Sanchez would be the best option between the two, as he’s taken quality teams to the playoffs in years past.

Minnesota opens their season on the road against the Tennessee Titans on September 11. They’ll open up their new stadium in prime time against the Green Bay Packers in week two.
