Switch to 3-4 outside linebacker is saving Jared Allen's body

Making the switch to 3-4 outside linebacker after 11 seasons of success as a 4-3 defensive end is a learning experience for Jared Allen. Recently, the 33-year-old veteran pass-rusher learned about the positive effect the position switch is having on his body, according to Jake Bertelson of Chicago Football.

"It’s less stress on my body," Allen told Chicago Football. "[Standing up], and not banging on every play, it’s a little more refreshing from a physical standpoint. I think it all takes its toll, and it all helps."

Allen has 134.0 career sacks, the most of any active player and ninth-most all time. He's within 10 sacks of Richard Dent, John Randle, Jason Taylor and Michael Stahan (all Hall of Famers, except Taylor). If the switch to a two-point stance propels him to a productive season, Allen could rank in the top five by the end of 2015.
