Oakland Raiders cornerback Sean Smith posted a message on Facebook to Raiders fans, following the Week 2 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.

Smith has had a rough start to his career in Silver and Black, no denying that, but his accountability is refreshing to see.

After yet another rough game for Smith, as well as the Raiders defense in general, Smith took to Facebook to write a message to Raider Nation.

There’s Raiders fans and there SEAN Smith fans. The SS fans know what I can do and know what I will do. Raider fans that don’t know yet I understand your frustration, we have a long season . Our defenses will get it together, WE will get it together. THANK YOU for your support and love.#Nation

Gotta love a player going out of his way to reach out and communicate with the fans. Smith definitely has embraced the team and the fans, which is great to see considering he came from a division rival.

This isn’t the first time Smith has showed this kind of accountability, which is a good and a bad thing. A good thing, because accountability is important, but a bad thing because he has had to show it twice, with two bad games.

Against the Saints, Smith acknowledged his bad day:

“I was getting killed. I’m not going to lie to you,” Smith said. “It was getting bad out there. I was costing our team points and Coach (Del Rio) did what he had to do. I obviously would’ve loved to have stayed in and fight it out. Coach made his decision and did what was best for the team. I had to ride with it.”

So while him owning his performance is great, hopefully this is the last time he has to explain himself.

And let’s hope Smith is right about the defense getting it together. How about in Week 3 against the Tennessee Titans?
