Sean Payton on remaining in New Orleans: 'This is where I call home'
With rumors swirling about Sean Payton's future with the New Orleans Saints, the head coach took the time to address those rumors. Fortunately for the Saints fans who want to see him back in town, it seems as though he's more than ready to remain in town for the long haul.
“Well, I said this earlier in the season. ... This is my ninth year coaching here in New Orleans, and it’s come up every, I’m going to say, two to three years. And I guess ... listen, it comes with the territory,” Payton said. “This is where I call home. I just finished building a home here. I’m close enough to my son back in Dallas where I’m pretty much back there once a week or he’s over here; my daughter is off in college now.
“So, I see myself coaching this team long past this season.”
Well, there you have it. It's worth noting that Payton has two years left on his current deal, and the Saints seem unlikely to let him go unless it's in some type of a trade scenario. Payton has had plenty of success in New Orleans, and the safest bet is that he'll get a chance to continue that success, at least for another two years.
