Seahawks take Texas S Earl Thomas 14th overall

The Seattle Seahawks have selected Texas safety Earl Thomas with the 14th overall pick in the NFL draft.

Thursday's second move by new coach Pete Carroll and new general manager John Schneider targeted the biggest need on Seattle's defense. The Seahawks had just two safeties on the roster present for last week's minicamp.

The 5-foot-10, 208-pound Thomas is an instinctive ball hawk. He had eight interceptions as an All-Big 12 selection for the Longhorns last season.

He is the first safety selected in the first round by Seattle since Kenny Easley in 1981.
