Seahawks fire coordinator Bates
The Seattle Seahawks have fired offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates, the team confirmed Tuesday.
Bates followed Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll from USC to Seattle in February 2010.
The well-respected Bates, who at 34 was one of the youngest play callers in the NFL, should be able to find another job quickly.
Seattle finished the regular season with the 28th ranked offense in the league. Seattle especially struggled running the ball, where it averaged just 89 yards per game in the regular season, almost the worst in franchise history.
Bates failed to develop quarterback Charlie Whitehurst, who the team acquired last offseason.
The Seahawks have also lost a few other coaches from both sides of the ball.
Quarterbacks coach Jedd Fisch left to go University of Miami to be its offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
Defensive line coach Dan Quinn is leaving the team to become the defensive coordinator at the University of Florida.
Defensive backs coach Jerry Gray left to become an assistant head coach and defensive backs coach at the University of Texas.
