Safety Gerald Alexander says he has signed with the Miami Dolphins, where he could provide depth in the secondary and help on special teams.

Alexander announced the deal Sunday on Twitter. He split his time last season between Jacksonville and Carolina, playing in five games with three starts. He has made 30 starts in his four-year career.

Alexander joins a secondary that includes veteran Yeremiah Bell at strong safety, while Chris Clemons and Reshad Jones are battling for the starting job at free safety.
