Running back Hyde to begin training camp on non-football injury list

BY foxsports • July 28, 2015

With Frank Gore's departure for Indianapolis, second-year running back Carlos Hyde was expected to step in and be the lead man in the backfield in 2015.

At the start of training camp, however, the Ohio State product will be on the non-football injury (NFI) list. During OTAs, Hyde had been absent with what was termed a minor leg injury by the team.

"Carlos is -- look, we're not in a hurry with him right now," head coach Jim Tomsula said on May 29, via ESPN. "It's nothing serious, but let's be at 100 percent when we get to training camp. He's in all the meetings and he's here and he's working out and he's doing his stuff. It's just more on the cautious side of just making sure we've got everything healed, and then we move forward."

In limited playing time last year (83 carries in 14 games), Hyde tied for the team lead in rushing touchdowns (4) and averaged 4.0 yards per carry.
