Reports: 49ers discussing starting Colin Kaepernick
The San Francisco 49ers will reportedly name Colin Kaepernick as the team's starting quarterback for their upcoming game against the Buffalo Bills on Oct. 16, according to multiple reports.
Kaepernick has not played all season. The 49ers are 1–4 on the season with Blaine Gabbert as the team's starting quarterback.
Despite not playing, Kaepernick has been in the spotlight as he sat during the national anthem of a preseason game and later started taking a knee during "The Star Spangled Banner" to raise awareness for racial injustice in America. Players throughout the league have joined Kaepernick's demonstration by taking a knee, locking arms or raising their first during the national anthem.
• Colin Kaepernick has already secured his legacy
The 49ers and Kaepernick are reportedly closing in on a new contract to alleviate concerns regarding injury guarantees, according to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport.
Kaepernick took over as the 49ers starting quarterback in 2012 and started in all 16 games in 2013 and 2014. He has thrown for 10,030 yards and 56 touchdowns in his 58 games for San Francisco.
