Report: Vikings change coordinators

Published Jan. 15, 2012 12:00 a.m. ET

The Minnesota Vikings have relieved Fred Pagac of his duties as defensive coordinator but have offered him a demotion to his former role of linebackers coach, the Pioneer Press reported Sunday, citing sources.

Pagac, who became defensive coordinator last January after serving as linebackers coach from 2006 to 2010, was yet to inform the team on whether he would accept the new offer.

It had been speculated for weeks that Pagac would be replaced as coordinator after the Vikings fell to 21st in total defense and 26th in passing defense.

The team had interviewed former Tampa Bay coach Raheem Morris and Jaguars defensive coordinator Mel Tucker as possible replacements in the past two weeks, but Morris accepted a role as Redskins defensive backs coach and Tucker opted to remain in Jacksonville under new coach Mike Mularkey.

Vikings linebackers coach Mike Singletary is reportedly in the mix for the coordinator job.
