Report: Tony Romo interested in playing for Broncos next season

Cowboys quarterback is interested in playing for the Broncos next season if the Cowboys decide to trade him, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports.

Romo has missed the first nine games of the season with a back injury and though he is healthy enough to return to the field, he will serve as Dak Prescott’s backup in Sunday’s game against the Eagles. Romo acknowledged this week that the team is right to hand the reins to the rookie.

With his $20 million salary cap hit, carrying Romo as the Cowboys’ backup quarterback isn’t feasible, making it increasingly likely Dallas will look to trade its former franchise player. Romo “already has eyes on the Broncos as a possible destination,” Rapoport reports.

Denver drafted Paxton Lynch in the first round of this year’s draft but Trevor Siemian, a seventh-round pick in 2015, has started the first nine games. Siemian has completed 60.1% of his passes, while throwing for 12 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Rapoport lists the Bears, Jets, Cardinals and Bills as other possible destinations for Romo.
