Report: Magee busted on pot possession

Published May. 10, 2011 1:00 a.m. ET

Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive end Alex Magee was arrested on charges of marijuana possession and driving with an expired tag, the Tampa Tribune reported Tuesday.

Magee, 24, was pulled over Monday afternoon in a 2009 black Dodge Charger for driving with an expired tag. Police said they smelled marijuana during the stop, and found a small amount during a search of the vehicle.

Magee was released with a citation for a misdemeanor and ordered to appear in court.

Magee played in eight games for the Bucs and two for the Chiefs in his second NFL season out of Purdue. He is the fourth member of the Bucs organization to be arrested since early March.

Pro scouting director Shelton Quarles and assistant coach Jay Kaiser were arrested separately on drunk driving charges, while cornerback Aqib Talib was arrested on a charge of aggravated assault in connection with a domestic incident in Texas involving his sister's boyfriend.

"All I can say to our fans is we're trying to do everything we can to build up this football team to be the team this town, this community, is proud of," Bucs general manager Mark Dominik said last month. "We're going to continue to work on educating even further our staff and our players on the dangers and perils."

There have been at least a dozen arrests of NFL players since the lockout began March 11.
