Report: Dielman had seizure on plane

Published Oct. 27, 2011 1:00 a.m. ET

San Diego Chargers offensive lineman Kris Dielman will miss at least two games after suffering a seizure as the team flew home from New York last Sunday.

Dielman, who had earlier suffered a concussion in the fourth quarter against the Jets, bit into his lip and tongue during the Gran Mal seizure as the plane neared landing at Lindbergh Field, a source told the North County Times.

He regained consciousness and was taken to the hospital for observation before being released Monday.

Dielman's agent, Mike McCartney, confirmed the account late Thursday.

"My understanding is that Kris was struggling on the way home and had a seizure," he said. "He was taken to the hospital, went through a battery of tests, and it was determined he was OK. It looks like there's no fear of long-term complications and that he's going to be OK."

The four-time Pro Bowler will not be back in time for Monday night's trip to Kansas City nor the Week 9 visit of the Green Bay Packers to Qualcomm Stadium. Tyronne Green will start in his absence.

Dielman declined to discuss the seizure, but said of the earlier concussion, "The lingering headaches are there . . . You have to tread lightly. We'll take the proper precautions and see what happens."
