Report: Chiefs talking to LB Houston, but sides aren't progressing
Justin Houston has until July 15 to accept his new position as the Chiefs' franchise player.
Until then, the team and player intend on talking out a new long-term deal, even if progress has been slow at best.
According to ProFootballTalk, Houston's representatives have been in contact with Chiefs officials. However, significant progress " has not yet been made."
The star pass-rusher still has several options. He could take his $13.1 million franchise tender or wait it out for the first 10 weeks of the season. After Week 11, Houston would have to report -- but it lessens the chance of injury that could ruin his chance at another higher tag next year.
Another team could relinquish two first-rounders for Houston, but that seems unlikely at this point in the season.
Count on Houston reporting -- franchise tag or not.
