Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders has filed for divorce from TV presenter Lauren Sanders after 11 years of marriage, the Detroit Free Press reported Monday.

The 43-year-old Detroit Lions great is seeking joint custody of the couple's three boys, aged 10, 8 and 4.

The filing, which was made Friday in Michigan's Oakland County Circuit Court, cites a breakdown in marital relations as the reason for the divorce.

Lauren Sanders works as a weekend anchor for WDIV-TV Channel 4. They were married in November 2000 in Detroit.

Barry Sanders, a Heisman Trophy winner and 10-time Pro Bowl selection, rushed for 15,269 yards over 10 seasons, and sits third on the all-time list behind Emmitt Smith and Walter Payton.

He retired in 1999 and entered the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2004. His No. 20 has been retired by the Lions.
