Report: 49ers bracing for 6-to-8 game suspension for Aldon Smith

The San Francisco 49ers are bracing for a 6-to-8 game suspension for star linebacker Aldon Smith, reports.

Smith has met with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell regarding his multiple violations of the personal conduct and substance abuse policies. Smith, who has 42 sacks in his first three seasons in the league, pleaded no contest to weapons and DUI charges in May. He was sentenced to serve three years of probation and to spend 11 days with a work crew.

Smith also allegedly made a false bomb threat in the security line at Los Angeles International Airport in April. He recently attended a hearing in Los Angeles aimed at wrapping up this case.

Smith played all 16 regular-season games his first two seasons, but voluntarily sat out of five games last year when he entered a substance abuse treatment center. Despite missing time, Smith still accounted for 8.5 sacks in 2013, the first time he failed to record double-digit sack totals.
