Redskins TE Reed could exploit Giants secondary, ex-teammate

Washington Redskins tight end Jordan Reed could be in line for a big night against the New York Giants on Thursday. If so, it will come at the expense of a former teammate.

Reed will line up against Giants safety Brandon Meriweather, who played the previous three seasons with the Redskins. Reed has quickly become a favorite target of quarterback Kirk Cousins with 13 receptions for 145 yards and a touchdown through the first two games.

He could boost those totals against a New York secondary that has been singed by tight ends in its first two games. Meriweather struggled in coverage against the Atlanta Falcons' Jacob Tamme, who had four catches for 77 yards on Sunday.

The Giants had similar issues in their season opener as Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten reeled in eight receptions for 60 yards and a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns.

The oft-injured Reed was was a borderline after-thought until tight ends Niles Paul and Logan Paulsen suffered season-ending injuries in the preseason, but he has already been targeted 17 times.
