Ravens place Dennis Pitta and Terrence Brooks on PUP list

The Ravens have placed injured tight end Dennis Pitta and safety Terrence Brooks on the physically-unable-to-perform list ahead of Wednesday's official start of training camp.

If neither player is activated before the start of the season, they'll be forced to miss the first six games. Pitta still hasn't been medically cleared from his career-threatening hip injury, while Brooks is working his way back from a torn ACL and MCL suffered in Week 15 last season.

"Hopefully, I will be on the field this year," Pitta told BYU Sports Nation last week. "It's still a little bit up in the air. I feel pretty good physically. But I’m kind of at the whim of the doctors whether or not they give me the go-aheadto play. Hopefully it works out and I can be back out there."

Brooks, last year's third-round pick out of Florida State, is ahead of schedule and was healthy enough to run some drills during OTAs and minicamp. He is still a big question mark to begin the season on the roster.

Unlike last year, the Ravens have depth at both safety and tight end. They drafted tight ends Maxx Williams and Nick Boyle to pair with second-year man Crockett Gillmore. At safety, they added free agent Kendrick Lewis from the Texans and also re-signed Will Hill.
