The Oakland Raiders snatched victory in an emphatic way on the road against the New Orleans Saints.

Early in the offensive see-saw battle, the Saints took the upper hand scoring 21 uninterrupted points in the second and third quarters. Oakland turned the tide in the fourth quarter, outscoring New Orleans 21-10.

Overall, both quarterbacks put on a show behind solid offensive lines that kept them off the ground for a majority of the game. The Raiders received an extra boost from the ground attack with running back Jalen Richard’s 75-yard run through the middle of the Saints offense.

The Raiders completed their comeback, down 24-13 in the third quarter, with a risky choice to go for two points after pulling within an extra point of tying the game at 34. 

Saints quarterback Drew Brees racked up 423 passing yards and four touchdowns throughout the contest, which likely factored into Del Rio’s daring decision to attempt the two-point conversion. The gamble worked out in the Raiders’ favor, which sealed the late victory.

Willie Snead, Saints: Since 400 passing yards isn’t new a feat for Brees, we’ll go with the wideout who benefited most in receiving yards. Willie Snead led all receivers in this contest with 172 yards. In the first half, he shared the load with Brees to put the offense on his back.

Brandin Cooks, Saints: In the second half, Snead tapered off and Brandin Cooks continued to torch the Raiders secondary. He logged two touchdown receptions, including one 98-yard dash over cornerback Sean Smith.

Derek Carr, Raiders: Derek Carr didn’t accumulate 400-plus yards or four touchdowns like Brees, but he delivered down the stretch in the most critical moments. He drove his team downfield for his first and only touchdown pass in the game and followed with a two-point conversion.

The Raiders will play their home opener against the Atlanta Falcons, who come off a 31-24 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Saints hope to rebound on the road against the New York Giants, who come off a thrilling victory over the Dallas Cowboys.
