Quincy Enunwa needs to step up and deliver for the Jets

The New York Jets have announced that wide receiver Eric Decker has a partially torn rotator cuff, and will miss the game against the Seahawks. There is also no timetable for a return.

With wide receiver Eric Decker out, that means the New York Jets are losing a key piece to their offense. Football is all about the next man up, though, and that means it’s time for wide receiver Quincy Enunwa to show us something.

All offseason long we heard how Enunwa was performing in offseason camps, then he showed it in the preseason. In addition to that, he played well in the first two games of the season.

He had 13 catches on 14 targets, and one touchdown in the first two games. Unfortunately, like the rest of the team, he no showed in Kansas City.

Wide receiver Brandon Marshall is 32-years-old and Decker is 29-years-old. Marshall is already showing signs of injuries beginning to wear on him, and this could be a sign that Decker is slowly moving to the other side of the hill as well. At 24-years-old, Enunwa could be the future of this organization, but he’s going to have to prove it.

Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman doesn’t roam the field. He always plays at left cornerback.

That means that he will be matched up against Marshall sometimes or Enunwa other times. That’s a great test for Enunwa. Sherman is still one of the top corners in the league.

He also may still play some slot so the Jets can have speed on the outside. This means dealing with Bobby Wagner or Kam Chancellor.

Regardless of who he’s directly matched up against, they didn’t earn the nickname The Legion of Boom for nothing. He will have his work cut out for him.

If he can come out of this resembling anything like he did against Buffalo, it would be a great sign of his maturity and of things to come. Especially now in a must-win Week 4 contest against the Seahawks, he must step up and deliver when the Jets need it most.
