Bill Polian says his biggest mistake was not having an adequate backup for Peyton Manning, and that's what led to his firing as vice chairman of the Indianapolis Colts.
Polian tells The Associated Press on Wednesday that the lack of a capable backup for the injured quarterback was the primary reason the Colts went from a Super Bowl contender to a 2-14 record and the No. 1 draft pick.
In his first comments since he and his son, general manager Chris Polian, were dismissed Monday, Polian says the timing of the move was surprising and that he was more upset about his son losing his job.
After his team won 143 regular-season games, two AFC titles and a Super Bowl in his 14 seasons, Polian says he's not sure what he'll do next.
