Philly sporting goods store offering Eagles 'jersey insurance'

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly may have indicated during the draft that it was safe for fans to buy Sam Bradford jerseys. In fact, Kelly went as far as to indicate that the team never had any plans to trade Bradford during his appearance on NFL Network’s draft coverage.

That’s fine and dandy, but one local sporting goods chain based in Philadelphia isn’t buying into Kelly’s public stance.

Schuylkill Valley Sports and its 18 locations are offering consumers insurance if they buy a Bradford or Mark Sanchez jersey.

The cost of buying insurance is $10, but it’s well worth it in the end considering just how much authentic NFL jerseys are sold for on the market right now.

This shouldn’t be solely limited to Kelly’s team moving forward. I remember buying a Jason Richardson Golden State Warriors jersey a few years back. Within two weeks he was traded. So there I was, sporting an outdated jersey that cost me north of $100.

What about New Orleans Saints fans and Jimmy Graham? No one in their right mind would have believed Mickey Loomis and company were planning on trading the Pro Bowl tight end. Then, on the opening day of free agency, it happened.

San Francisco 49ers fans probably thought investing in a Patrick Willis or Chris Borland jersey made some sense. That was until both abruptly announced their retirement back in March.

For Eagles fans, it’s probably safe to assume both Bradford and Sanchez will be with the team next year. After that, it’s anyone’s guess. If we’ve learned anything from Chip Kelly’s first offseason as the team’s chief decision maker, it’s to expect the unexpected. Throw $10 down on insurance, and thank us later.
