Philanthropists donate $3M to Super Bowl charities

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) Three philanthropists are each donating $1 million to an independent charitable arm of the NY/NJ Super Bowl Host Committee for playgrounds and youth centers in both states.

The donations to the NY/NJ Snowflake Youth Foundation by the Tisch, Johnson and Mara families, as well as other partner organizations, have raised more than $11 million.

Robert Wood ''Woody'' Johnson, who owns the New York Jets; Jonathan Tisch, a co-owner of the New York Giants; and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell joined New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie for a tour Monday of a Boys & Girls Club in Newark, which had been renovated through the project.

Tisch said the initiative was part of making sure that the Super Bowl makes a lasting difference in the lives of local youths.
