Peterson still in walking boot

Published Nov. 23, 2011 12:00 a.m. ET

Minnesota Vikings coach Leslie Frazier says star running back Adrian Peterson will not play Sunday against Atlanta if he cannot practice by Friday.

Peterson missed practice on Wednesday and his sprained left ankle remained in a walking boot. He sustained the high ankle sprain Sunday against Oakland. Frazier says the team hopes the boot will be removed Thursday. But if Peterson cannot practice this week, Minnesota will not try to push him to get ready for the Falcons.

At 2-8, the Vikings have little incentive to force their franchise player back onto the field.

Left guard Anthony Herrera, who has missed the last three games with a knee injury, did practice on Wednesday. Frazier says the club will monitor Herrera throughout the week.
