Packers release Hawk, Lee and Martin

The Green Bay Packers have released starting ILB A.J. Hawk, TE Donald Lee and backup S Derrick Martin.

Lee was signed through 2011 and carried a base salary of $2.2 million along with a $160,000 roster bonus and a workout bonus worth $125,000, a source confirmed.

“We want to thank Donald for all of his contributions to the Packers and for being a good teammate throughout his career in Green Bay,” executive vice president, general manager and director of football operations Ted Thompson said. “He has been a professional and we wish him well in the future.”

Martin was signed through 2011 and carried a base salary of $750,000 and a $100,000 workout bonus for next season.

“We appreciate Derrick’s work and contributions over the past two seasons. He has been a good player on our team and we appreciate his passion and energy,” Thompson said.

Hawk was due $10 million in base salary for the 2011 season, the final year of his rookie contract.

“With A.J., the business side of the game is driving this decision. We’re hopeful that we can continue to work with A.J. to have him be a part of our team in the future.”

It seems like the Packers are making significant progress in bringing back Hawk. Green Bay is set to sign Hawk to a new five-year deal Thursday, Milwaukee's WTMJ-TV reported.
