Oakland Raiders Not in Top 10 of ESPN's Power Rankings
Week 8 edition of where the Oakland Raiders land on ESPN’s Power Rankings.
After an impressive showing in Week 7, the Oakland Raiders have jumped up three spots in ESPN’s latest power rankings, but that still isn’t enough to put them in the top ten.
The 33-16 victory was only good enough to put Oakland at #11.
Every team ranked 6th through 10th have a worse record than the Raiders do, with the top five — with the exception of the Broncos — all having just one loss.
So that means that Oakland is the lowest ranked 5-2 team. With a win percentage of .714, that puts Oakland tied for 4th in the league. If the season ended today, they’d be the #2 seed in the AFC.
Here is what ESPN had to say:
The Raiders are still chilling at the top of the AFC West standings, but are they for real? Of the five-win teams this season, the Raiders by far have the worst point differential (plus-6). A trip to Tampa in Week 8 could help bolster that margin though.
It’s hard to disagree with the thinking here. The defense had been awful, which is what has lead to the poor point differential. But being ranked behind the (3-3) Arizona Cardinals and the (4-3) Pittsburgh Steelers doesn’t seem right.
The 20th ranked Tampa Bay Buccaneers are up next.
