Oakland Mayor Schaaf meets with Goodell about new Raiders stadium
Libby Schaaf doesn't want to hand out taxpayer dollars to keep the Raiders in town.
That doesn't mean Oakland's mayor would rather see the Silver and Black pack up and leave, though. So, according to NFL executive vice president Eric Grubman, Schaaf (pictured above) met with commissioner Roger Goodell about the status of pro football in her city.
“The Mayor outlined visions and goals at a general level,” Grubman said in an email to CSN Bay Area. “No specific proposal was discussed. Roger encouraged dialogue, and he stressed that there was a need to have a specific and actionable plan put forward soon.”
Oakland's best bet could hinge on the specifics of San Diego businessman Floyd Kephart's plan. Kephart's proposal was submitted earlier this week, but that might not be enough to keep the Raiders from heading to Los Angeles.
Still, Schaaf and Grubman agreed to meet once Kephart's plan was fully reviewed and absorbed, per reports. That's a semi-good sign for any Oakland-area pigskin fans who hope their team stays by the Bay.
