NFL Week 5: Which Teams are On Bye?
Taking a look at which four teams will be on bye for NFL Week 5 and where they stand at this point in their respective seasons
There are four teams in NFL Week 5 on a bye, two from the AFC and two from the NFC. They will be resting a little more this weekend as they watch their NFL Sunday Ticket. Those teams are the Jacksonville Jaguars, Kansas City Chiefs, New Orleans Saints, and Seattle Seahawks.
Entering their bye week, the Jaguars are 1-3, while the Chiefs are 2-2. Jacksonville is coming off a close 30-27 win in London, England over the Indianapolis Colts. The Chiefs were hammered on Sunday Night Football by the Pittsburgh Steelers, 43-14.
The two NFC teams have opposite records with the Seahawks being 3-1 and the Saints at 1-3. Seattle won on Sunday over the New York Jets, 27-17, and the Saints gained their first win of the season over the San Diego Chargers, 35-34.
The four teams having byes in Week 5 each have had their own issues. The good thing for them is they have a chance to work through what isn’t correct. Moreover, they can also relax and enjoy the fruits of their labor with some of the teams playing solid football the past couple weeks after slow starts to their seasons.
Let’s take a look at each bye week team and their season so far.

Jacksonville Jaguars
In their four games this season, the Jacksonville Jaguars have suffered three losses by a combined 30 points, though one of those losses was a 38-14 score against the San Diego Chargers. The other two losses against the Green Bay Packers and Baltimore Ravens were by a combined six points.
Jacksonville’s lone win was this past Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts, winning by a 30-27 score.

The problem for the Jaguars that feels the most pressing is their running game as the’ve not had a 100-yard rusher in a game all season. In fact, the Jaguars haven’t had any player on the offense reach 80 yards rushing in a game. Their best rushing game came against the Colts when T.J. Yeldon rushed for 71 yards on 14 carries.
Their passing numbers are down too with Blake Bortles starting the season well with two 300-plus yard passing games. Since then, in the past two games, Bortles also passed for 194 yards vs. Baltimore and 207 yards vs. Indianapolis.
Allen Robinson leads Jacksonville with 238 yards receiving on 21 receptions, for an 11.3 yards per reception average. Yeldon has just 155 yards rushing in four games, averaging 3.2 yards per carry on 48 rushes. The defense of the Jaguars is sixth in the league allowing 304.5 yards per game, but what hurts them is their points per game allowed at 27.8, which is 25th in the league.
Some felt this would be the year the Jaguars would take the next step in the progression of the rebuild of their team, but a 1-3 record begs to differ.

Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs are having their bye week at a perfect time after getting destroyed by the Pittsburgh Steelers, 43-14. They enter the bye week with a 2-2 record, third in the AFC West, and it will be a good time to take a good look at their defense to see what went wrong Sunday night.
Even with Marcus Peters having four interceptions and even with a game where they intercepted Ryan Fitzpatrick six times, the Chiefs defense this season is 23rd in yards allowed per game at 338.5. With that, their pass rush has totaled just five sacks in the first four weeks.
Their rushing attack has seen Spencer Ware total 284 yards on 54 rushes with one touchdown. In the first month of the season, the entire Chiefs offense has just two total rushing touchdowns. At quarterback, Alex Smith has completed 64.9 percent of his passes with five touchdowns and two interception. Smith has been throwing under heavy pressure with his offensive line allowing 13 sacks, resulting in a loss of 80 yards.
Many had hope for the O-line of the Chiefs to start the season, but that hope is gone due to some injuries early on, resulting in some issues for a spot of the team they believed could have been one of their best. Again, this is a perfect week for Kansas City to have a bye, as maybe some of their players can heal up and they can get back on track for the remainder of the season.

New Orleans Saints
The first four games of the season for the Saints aren’t what they had hoped for, with a 1-3 record and barely winning on Sunday in a 35-34 win over the Oakland Raiders. There is some hope for this team as they do have a very explosive offense with Drew Brees and a core of wide receivers who can become playmakers.
The defense, on the other hand, hasn’t been much to brag about in recent seasons for the Saints, and this year hasn’t really been any different for the franchise. The defense is last in the league by allowing 32.5 points per game and 31st in yards per game allowed at 422.8. Of those yards, 121.5 have come from their 25th-ranked rush defense.
It is safe to say the Saints aren’t winning any awards for defense this season. They have just one interception but do have seven sacks.
The offense is powerful as usual with Brees and Co. with the veteran quarterback competing 65.9 percent of his passes for 1,269 yards in four games. In those yards, he’s thrown 10 touchdowns and three interceptions.
One thing for Brees, though, is he’s been sacked seven times. With the offense being ranked fourth in points scored per game (28.5), fifth in total yards per game (386.0) and second in passing yards per game (304.2), they will be involved in a lot of shootouts and high-scoring games for the rest of the season.

Seattle Seahawks
Entering their bye week with two-straight wins, plus winning three of their first four games, the Seahawks have almost taken advantage of their early season schedule with wins over the Miami Dolphins, San Francisco 49ers, and the New York Jets. Their lone loss came against the Los Angeles Rams by a 9-3 score in a game that is still baffling how Seattle only scored three points.
For a franchise that is known for having very good defenses in recent years, Seattle is third in the NFL by allowing 13.5 points per game, second in allowing 264 yards per game. They are also in the top 10 in two other defensive categories. They’ve allowed just 183.8 passing yards per game and sixth in the league by allowing only 80.2 yards per game rushing.
The offense of the Seahawks really needs to improve on their rushing game as they’ve not completely replaced Marshawn Lynch, but they are also battling some injuries with their backs, too. Christine Michael leads the Seahawks with 290 yards (4.6 yards per carry) on 63 carries and two touchdowns. Those two touchdowns are the lone two rushing touchdowns of the season for Seattle.
From there, Thomas Rawls, who has been injured some this season, has just 19 carries for 25 yards, and quarterback Russell Wilson has 15 rushes for 28 yards. Wilson through the air has completed 65.4 percent of his passes (1,064 yards) for five touchdowns and one interception. Seattle is dangerous now, but if their run game gets ironed out, they could really become a dangerous football team.
