NFL names Nabel as league's first health, medical adviser

The NFL has named Dr. Elizabeth G. Nabel as the league's first health and medical adviser.

She will be the league's senior medical expert. Nabel, who will also continue to serve as president of Brigham and Women's Hospital and as a professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School, is a cardiologist and biomedical researcher.

Nabel will work directly with commissioner Roger Goodell in a variety of roles. She will work closely with the NFL's independent medical committees.

Her most high-profile role will come in the area of working to identify areas to enhance player safety, care and treatment.
