NFL Mock Trade: Jimmy Garoppolo to Cleveland

Cleveland needs a quarterback, and where better than New England with Jimmy Garoppolo

It feels like forever since the Cleveland Browns have had a franchise quarterback to grow with. The names of Brady Quinn, Johnny Manziel, and Colt McCoy haunt Browns fans as the franchise continues to spiral downwards.

By holding two first round picks (complements to the Eagles/Wentz trade) the Browns can get creative when the draft gets underway in Philadelphia.

With a winless season currently under their belts, the Browns are projected to have the number one overall pick next spring.

Philadelphia’s pick is expected to land in the top-15, possibly in the top-10 after a rough first season under Doug Pederson.

Because this years quarterback class is extremely weak (Trubisky, Kizer, Watson) the Browns know they can not waste another generation of Browns fandom.

This is why trading the Eagles first round pick to New England for quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo makes a ton of sense for both teams.

Garoppolo made two starts this year during Tom Brady’s “Deflategate” suspension before suffering a shoulder injury. He threw four touchdowns and zero interceptions, showing he does in-fact have the skills to play at this level.

With a top-10 pick the Patriots can do one of two things: add youth to a progressively aging team, or trade the pick for multiple draft picks.

Knowing Bill Belichick, trading the pick for multiple assets is more likely. If they keep the pick, there are three options they could look towards: Alabama offensive tackle Cam Robinson, Clemson wide receiver Mike Williams, or Alabama weak side-linebacker Reuben Foster.

A Cleveland-New England trade is not uncommon, as we saw with Jamie Collins. It would be a win-win trade for both teams
