NFL lockout antitrust investigation dropped
New York's attorney general has ended an antitrust investigation into the five-month NFL lockout of players after owners and the players' union settled it.
Attorney General Eric Schneiderman requested information from both the league and the players' union three weeks ago about the economic impact.
Spokesman Danny Kanner says the inquiry is no longer being pursued and that its purpose was ''to mitigate potential widespread economic damage'' for New Yorkers.
A letter from Schneiderman's office to the National Football League said the lockout would ''inflict significant economic injuries statewide,'' starting with lost upstate summer training camps by the New York Jets in Cortland and the New York Giants in Albany. It said the office was ''deeply troubled'' by the possible implications of league conduct under New York antitrust law.
