Newton, rookies eye NFLPA draft events
Expected high draft picks Cam Newton and A.J. Green are among 20 prospects who are set to attend NFL Players Association events in New York City from April 28-30 — the same days as the draft.
The NFLPA confirmed the players' appearances in a release Monday. However, the events are not expected to conflict with the NFL's draft festivities.
The NFLPA is calling its series of events “a celebration of legacy — of past, present and future football players coming together to honor those making the journey from prospect to professional.”
At least 20 of the top incoming rookies, 14 current players and 10 former players are scheduled to attend the events.
Some of the events include a welcome meeting and dinner with families (held before the draft starts), media opportunities and a fitness-and-skill clinic in Harlem.
