New Orleans Saints post game quotes following loss at Giants
Following Sunday’s loss to the New York Giants in MetLife Stadium, the mood in the Saints locker room was serious. Yet this group of guys seemed confident things can be turned around and feel the losses this season will make them stronger as a team.
Quarterback Drew Brees
Quarterback Drew Brees was limited to 263 yards passing going 29 of 44 with 1 TD and no INTs against the Giants. During the game he passed Dan Marino for third all time in passing yardage in NFL history.
On the play of the defense:
Hats off to the defense. They played outstanding.
On the offense in the second half:
I felt like we put something together in the second half. We were able to move the ball effectively. We got ten points in the fourth quarter.
On the Giants defensive play:
They did a nice job with a couple of pressures that I didn’t get orchestrated the right way so that’s on me.
On the team going forward:
We’ve gotta continue to plug away on situational football and getting better and better on those key critical situations. I like our team and I’m not really paying attention to our record. I really don’t care about it right now other than I know we gotta make a few more plays and win these games and we will.
Defensive End Cameron Jordan
Defensive end Cameron Jordan finally got things going after being held in check in Week 1 action against the Raiders. He finished against the Giants with 8 tackles, 2 for loss, 1 sack, and a pass batted at the line. Here’s what he had to say about the play of the defense and the Saints’ young cornerbacks particularly:
I think we have a lot of talent. We still have a lot of potential. We have to live up to that potential. That being said, we had some young guys that played today that played out of their minds and some of the catches that were so great from the New York side … I think our corners were playing their butts off.
Running Back Mark Ingram
Saints running back Mark Ingram was extremely limited against the Giants. He finished with 9 rushes for 30 yards and 4 receptions for 17 yards. Here is what he had to say about the Saints’ losses in close games this season:
This is the story of our team the past few years being able to close out these close games. Gotta be able to close ’em out.
Strong Safety Kenny Vaccaro
Kenny Vaccaro is really coming into his own as a safety over the course of his career with the Saints. He put his talents on display Sunday finishing with 9 tackles, 1 for loss, and forced a fumble. Here’s his take on the teams struggles this season:
We’re not doing enough to win. Every game’s close in this league. It’s going to come down to the fourth quarter every game.
Wide Receiver Willie Snead, IV
Now one of Drew Brees’ go to targets game in and game out, Snead was relatively held in check by a stout Giants defense ending the day with 5 catches for 54 yards. He did, however, score the only offensive TD of the day for either team. Here are his thoughts on the play of the defense and team chemistry in general:
Defense played great today. Offensively we know we can pick it up and we’re going to pick it up. We just gotta win the next one and that’s what we’ve focused on. And all these losses are just gonna keep us closer together and make us stronger.
Cornerback Ken Crawley
Finding himself at the center of game changing plays this week and last, cornerback Ken Crawley, overall, had a very strong game against the Giants before giving up a pass to Giants receiver Victor Cruz that basically sealed the game for the G-Men. On the way, however, he did have 6 tackles, a pass defended, and forded a fumble at the end of a long pass play to Victor Cruz. Here are his comments following the game:
As a corner you gotta forget last game … just come out there and play the next game. P.J. went down and I just had to come out, fill the void, and just compete.
On the 34-yard catch given up to Giants receiver Victor Cruz:
He out-muscled me. He’s a great receiver.
