Nevada Senate passes Raiders' Las Vegas stadium deal

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

The Nevada Senate has approved a stadium deal in Las Vegas by a 16–5 vote on Tuesday evening, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. The project is another step forward in the Raiders possibly leaving Oakland for Las Vegas.

The new stadium will also need approval from the State General Assembly, which will meet on Thursday afternoon.

The stadium is expected to cost $1.9 billion and lawmakers wanted to sort out how much would be publicly funded. A 1.4% increase will pay for $740 million of the NFL stadium.

Casino owner Sheldon Adelson has pledged $650 million. Raiders owner Mark Davis is expected to pay $500 million.

The new venue would also be the future home of UNLV's football team.

In order for the Raiders to relocate, 3/4 of NFL owners would have to approve of the move. Fellow NFL owner Jerry Jones has previously voiced his support for the new deal. Owners are scheduled to meet in January.
