Mitchell’s injury at the moment is not considered a season ending injury. Teams by NFL rules can designate one player on IR for return. He will miss at minimum six weeks if he receives the designation.

The Dolphins will turn to third year pro Jordan Phillips who looked better last Sunday than at any time in his pro career thus far. In addition the Dolphins will use Julius Warmsley as well in the rotation.

Miami could go outside and add another defensive lineman but the free agent market at the moment isn’t rich with starting material.

Mitchell has been playing well next to Ndamukong Suh after a poor showing in 2015. Vance Joseph’s defensive scheme has a lot of people talking positive of the unit but losing Mitchell will surely hurt unless Phillips can continue what he did on Sunday.
